However, it did however require a playoff against Oliver Wilson from England. Peter Hanson from Sweden and Geoff Ogilvy from Australia where close behind with one further stroke.

Wen-tang Lin - (Chinese Taipei) UBS Hong Kong Open Hong Kong - Fanling - Hong Kong - 20th to 23rd November, 2008 It was a hard fought playoff for Wen-tang Lin to gain this win on the European Tour. He succeeded in beating Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland and Francisco Molinari from Italy.

Rodney Pambling - (Australia) Sportsbet Australian Masters Huntingdale - Melbourne - Australia - 27th to 30th November, 2008 Rod Pambling edged out Marcus Fraser at the third play-off hole to claim the Sportsbet Australian Masters title at Royal Melbourne after the two Australians finished on 12-under-par. Fraser had carded a fabulous final round seven-under-par 65 to join Pambling. Joint overnight leader Robert Allenby, a two-time Australian Masters champion, finished third. Rodney Pambling climbs 12 places to World Nº 59, while Fraser jumped 101 spots to Nº 231.

Robert Karlsson - (Sweden) Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Old Course - St. Andrews - Carnoustie & Kingsbarns - Scotland - 2nd to 6th October, 2008 Robert Karlsson shot a final round of 65 and then defeated fellow World Top 50 players Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer in a three-way play-off to take the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews. Ross Fisher had also shot 65 and the pair were joined by Martin Kaymer at the 10-under-par total as the German player closed with a 68. Robert Karlsson moved to the Top of the European Tour Order of Merit and also into the World Top 10 for the first time with a ten place jump to Nº 8. Ross Fisher moved to Nº 38th and Martin Kaymer to Nº 34.

Charl Schwartzel - (South Africa) Madrid Masters Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Spain - 9th to 12th October, 2008 Charl Schwartzel won the Madrid Masters after producing a bogey free final round of 66 at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid for a 19-under-par total of 199. Two of the South Africans three European Tour wins have now come in the Spanish capital following his Spanish Open win last year. This victory took Charl Schwartzel to Nº 66, an improvement of 31 places.

Sergio Garcia - (Spain) Castello Masters Costa Azahar Club de Campo del Mediterráneo,Castellón - Valencia - Spain - 23rd to 26th October, 2008 Another victory for Sergio Garcia from Spain in his home country at Valencia. when he ended three strokes clear of his nearest rival Peter Hedblom from Sweden. Another two strokes behind was Alex Noren also from Sweden.

Soren Kjeldsen - (Denmark) Volvo Master Club de Golf Valderrama - Sotogrande - Spain - 30th to 2nd November, 2008 Soren Kjeldsen from Denmark completed a wire-to-wire victory in the last ever Volvo Masters at Valderrama after a final round of 71 to finish two strokes ahead of England’s Anthony Wall and Germany’s Martin Kaymer. Lee Westwood finished in joint fourth place with Sergio Garcia, four shots back. The win took Soren Kjeldsen into the World Top 50 for the first time in 47th place, a rise of 39 places.

Jeff Lucquin - ((France) Omega European Masters Crans-sur-Sierre - Crans Montana - Switzerland - 4th to 7th September, 2008 In his maiden victory on the European Tour Jeff Lucquin from France had a playoff against Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland. Just one stroke back were Christian Cevaer, Julien Clement, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gary Orr.

Robert Karlsson - (Sweden) Mercedes-Benz Championship Golf Club Gut Larchenhof - Cologne - Germany - 11th to 14th September, 2008 Robert Karlsson claimed his first European Tour victory for two years in the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Gut Larchenhof in Cologne, Germany. He closed with 71 for a total of 13 under par and two shot victory over Italys Francesco Molinari. The six foot five inch Swede had been six clear at one stage but Molinari birdied four holes in a row from the 12th. Robert Karlsson headed to Valhalla for his second Ryder Cup as World Number 17, a rise of 5 places.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano - (Spain) Quinn Insurance British Masters The Belfry - Sutton Coldfield - England - 25th to 28th September, 2008 Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano won the Quinn Insurance British Masters at The Belfry after a playoff with Lee Westwood. The Spaniard started the final round three shots behind the defending champion but a brilliant final round 67 took him level with Lee Westwood on 12 under par. The victory took Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano to 91st place in the World Golf Ranking, an improvement of 68 places.

Padraig Harrington - (Ireland) US PGA Championship Oakland Hills - Bloomfield Township - Michigan - USA - 7th to 10th August, 2008 World Nº 3, Padraig Harrington, played the closing 9 holes in 32 and with third and fourth rounds of 66, 66 and won the 90th PGA Championship by two strokes from Sergio Garcia and Ben Curtis. Padraig Harrington became the first European since Scotlands Tommy Armour in 1930 to win the years final Major Championship and the first man since Tiger Woods in 2006 to record consecutive Major wins. Ben Curtis returns to the World Top 50 with a 40 position jump to Nº 37 and earned a place on the USA Ryder Cup Team.

Peter Hanson - (Denmark) SAS Masters Arlandastad - Stockholm - Sweden - 14th to 17th August, 2008 The win in Stockholm by Peter Hanson from Sweden brought his European Tour total up to 6. He finished one less stroke than Nick Dougherty from England and Pelle Edberg a fellow player from Sweden.

Darren Clarke - (Northern Ireland) The KLM Open Kennemer - Zandvoort - Netherlands - 21st to 24th August, 2008 Darren Clarke shot a second 66 on the weekend to secure a four stroke victory over Paul McGinley at The KLM Open, with Henrik Stenson taking third place at Kennemer Golf and Country Club. This was Darren Clarkes second win of the 2008 European Tour season after the Ulsterman won the BMW Asian Open in April and he moved to Nº 56, with an improvement of 34 places.

Gregory Havret - (France) Johnnie Walker Championship Gleneagles - Perthshire - Scotland - 28th to 31st August, 2008 Gregory Havret got up and down from the bunker at 18 to win the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles by a stroke from Graeme Storm after a round of 70 gave him a 14 under par total. It was Gregory Havrets second victory on Scottish soil, after he won the 2007 Scottish Open. The win took the Frenchman to Nº 85, a jump of 59 places.

Ross Fisher - (England) The European Open The London - Ash - Kent - England - 3rd to 6th July, 2008 Ross Fisher led from wire-to-wire and with a holed bunker shot for birdie on the 72nd hole secured a seven stroke victory at the European Open held at The London Club. This second career European Tour victory moved the Wentworth Club based Ross Fisher up 47 positions to Nº 57.

Graeme McDowell - (Northern Ireland) The Barclays Scottish Open Loch Lomond - Glasgow - Scotland - 10th to 13th July, 2008 Northern Irelands Graeme McDowell won The Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond Golf Club by two shots after a final round of 68 left him on 13 under par. South African James Kingston was second on 273, while Australias Richard Green and Spains Miguel Angel Jimenez were a shot further back in third. McDowell leaped into the World Top 30 with this win and his World Golf Ranking at Nº 29.

Padraig Harrington - (Ireland) 137th Open Championship Royal Birkdale - Southport - Merseyside - England - 17th to 20th July, 2008 Padraig Harrington successfully defended the The Open Championship title in superb style on a windswept final day at Royal Birkdale. Padraig Harrington carded a closing round of 69 for a three over total of 283, finishing four shots clear of Ian Poulter who also shot 69. Overnight leader Greg Norman finished tied third along with Swedens Henrik Stenson. Padraig Harrington jumped 11 places to a career high World Nº 3, while Ian Poulter moved up to Nº 23.

Mikael Lundberg - (Sweden) Inteco Russian Open Golf Championship 2008 Le Meridien Moscow - Moscow - Russia - 24th to 27th July, 2008 Swedens Mikael Lundberg claimed his second Inteco Russian Open title in four years as he carded a final round of 68 for a 21-under-par total at Moscow Country Club and a two-shot victory over Jose Manuel Lara from Spain. Lundberg leaped 171 positions to 179th in the latest Official World Golf Ranking.

Vijay Singh - (Fiji) WGC - Bridgestone Invitational Firestone - Akron - Ohio - USA - 31st to 3rd August, 2008 Vijay Singh from Fiji shot a final round of two-under-par 68 at the Firestone Country Club to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by a shot from overnight co-leader Lee Westwood and Stuart Appleby. Phil Mickelson tied for fourth place with Retief Goosen. This was Vijay Singhs first win since taking the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2007, his 32nd on the PGA Tour and it took him to World Number 4,with an improvement of 11 places.

Jeev Milkha Singh - (India) Bank Austria GolfOpen Fontana - Vienna - Austria - 5th to 8th June, 2008 Jeev Milkha Singh from India had a final round of 18 straight pars to win the Bank Austria Golf Open presented by Telekom Austria. His final round of 71 for a three round winning total of 15 under par at the weather affected event was enough to win by a stroke from Englands Simon Wakefield. Jeev Milkha Singh climbed 19 places to Nº 71.

Tiger Woods - (USA) US Open Championship Torrey Pines - La Jolla - California - USA - 12th to 15th June, 2008 Tiger Woods won his third US Open Championship title and 14th Major in total after an 18 hole play-off plus one sudden death hole beating brave compatriot Rocco Mediate. The pair had completed 72 holes on one par totals, one stroke ahead of Lee Westwood. Tiger Woods celebrates his career 500th week as World Number One, a position he first attained on 15th June 1997. Mediate jumped into the World Top 50 with a 111 place improvement to Nº 47.

Martin Kaymer - (Germany) BMW International Open Golfclub München Eichenried - Munich - Germany- 19th to 22nd June, 2008 Martin Kaymer became the first German to win the BMW International Open in its 20 year history after bravely holding off Dane Anders Hansen in a play-off at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried. The 2007 European Tour Rookie of the year climbed 11 places to World Nº 30.

Pablo Larrazabal - (Spain) Open de France Alstom Le Golf National - Paris - France - 26th to 29th June, 2008 Pablo Larrazabal from Spain produced a stunning performance at the Open de France Alstom at Le Golf National to hold off the challenge of a host of European Tour champions including former Order of Merit winners Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood. A final round of 4-under-par 67 gave Pablo Larrazabal a four stroke victory over Colin Montgomerie as he moved 343 places to Nº 138.

Peter Lawrie - (Ireland) Open de Espana Real Club de Golf de Sevilla - Seville - Spain - 1st to 4th May, 2008 Peter Lawrie made it a hat-trick of Irish victories in three consecutive weeks on the European Tour after victory at the second extra hole over Ignacio Garrido in the Open de Espana at Real Club de Golf de Sevilla. Lawrie climbed 87 places to Nº 156.

Hennie Otto won by a stroke from Oliver Wilson after a final round of 69. Hennie Otto climbed to Nº 76 with a leap of 78 places.

Miguel Angel Jimenez - (Spain) BMW PGA Championship Wentworth - Virginia Water - Surrey - England - 22nd to 25th May, 2008 Miguel Angel Jimenez won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, the European Tour Flagship tournament, with a birdie on the second extra hole after tying Oliver Wilson on 11-under-par totals of 277 in the regulation 72 holes. Miguel Angel Jimenez, who enjoyed a hole-in-one on the 5th hole, climbed 20 places to Nº 21. Oliver Wilsons compensation for just missing out on a maiden win is a 30 place jump to Nº 45 earning him a World Top 50 place and with it a participation for both the US Open and Open Championship.

Scott Strange - (Australia) The Celtic Manor Wales Open Celtic Manor - City of Newport - Wales - 29th to 1st June, 2008 Scott Strange from Australia won the Celtic Manor Wales Open on the European Tour, played for the first time over the Twenty Ten Course that will host the Ryder Cup in 2010. He lead from the first day and his final round of 64 was the best of the day along with second placed Robert Karlsson and Francesco Molinari. Scott Strange, and a two-time winner on the Asian Tour, climbed 83 places to Nº 81.

Trevor Immelman - (South Africa) Masters Tournament Augusta National - Augusta - Georgia - USA - 10th to 13th April, 2008 Trevor Immelman from South Africa won the Masters Tournament at Augusta National having led since round one. On a final day with blustery winds averaging 20 miles per hour, Trevor Immelman shot a final round of 3-over-par 75 for a three stroke victory over Tiger Woods. Trevor Immelman become only the second South African Masters Champion and his victory coming on the 30th anniversary of Gary Players third Green Jacket win. The 28-year-old 2008 Masters Champion climbed 14 places to Nº 15.

Damien McGrane - (Ireland) Volvo China Open Beijing CBD International - Beijing - China - 17th to 20th April, 2008 Damien McGrane from Ireland defied the incessant downpour to claim his maiden European Tour title with a convincing nine stroke victory in the Volvo China Open at Beijing CBD International Golf Club, a tournament co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour. This win took Damien McGrane to Nº 148 and an improvement of 73 places.

Darren Clarke - (Northern Ireland) BMW Asian Open Tomson Shanghai Pudong - Shanghai - China - 24th to 27th April, 2008 The popular golfer Darren Clarke from Northern Ireland added another win to his total on the European Tour with his success in China. He ended one stroke less than Jan-Robert Derksen from Holland, and three strokes less than Robert Dinwiddie, Wen-tang Lin and Francisco Molinari.

Arjun Atwal - (India) Maybank Malaysian Open Kota Permai - Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia - 6th to 9th March, 2009 Arjun Atwal, defeated defending champion Peter Hedlbom of Sweden in a sudden death play-off at the Maybank Malaysian Open at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club. The pair finished on 18 under par 270 after Arjun Atwal surged through the field with a superb eight under par 64 to Peter Hedbloms 71. A par on the second play-off hole secured the title for Arjun Atwal and he jumped 140 places to Nº 203. Peter Hedblom improved his ranking by 29 places and moved to Nº 85. One stroke behind were Simon Dyson from England and Kane Webber from Australia.

Graeme McDowell - (Northern Ireland) Ballantines Championship Pinx - Jeju Island - South Korea - 13th to 16th March, 2008 Graeme McDowell capped an extraordinary final round at the inaugural Ballantines Championship with a thrilling sudden-death play-off victory on the third extra hole over Jeev Milkha Singh at the Pinx Golf Club. After both players had posted 24-under-par 264 totals they returned to the 18th tee three times before Graeme McDowell produced a sublime seven iron from 179 yards to within a foot of the hole to set up a title clinching birdie. Graeme McDowell climbed to Nº 59 with an improvement of 35 places. Jeev Milka Singh moved up 11 places to Nº 79.

Chawrasia - (India) Indian Masters Delhi - New Delhi - India - 7th to 10th February, 2008 S.S.P Chowrasia from India shot a 5-under-par 67 in the final round to clinch the Indian Masters title at the Delhi Golf Club. He had a bogey-free final round to win his maiden European Tour title with a four-round aggregate of nine-under par 279, two strokes ahead of Irelands Damien McGrane. S.S.P. Chowrasia jumped 227 positions to Nº 161.

Felipe Aguilar - (Chile) Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open Cengkareng - Jakarta - Indonesia - 14th to 17th February, 2008 Felipe Aguilar from Chile added another win to his total on the European Tour at the Indonesian Open Jakarta in India. His one stroke less lead gained his victory over fellow Indian, Jeev Milkha Singh. A further stroke behind was James Kamte and Prom Meesawat.

He lead by three strokes from his nearest rivals, Greg Chalmers, Tachiro Kiyota and Scott Strange.

Richard Sterne - (South Africa) Joburg Open Royal Johannesburg & Kensington - South Africa - 10th to 13th January, 2008 Richard Sterne from South Africa won on the European and Sunshine Tour for the third time as he claimed the Johannesburg Open title in a thrilling sudden-death playoff over Magnus A Carlsson and Garth Mulroy at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington. Sterne began the tournament as the highest World Ranked player in the field at Nº 44 and then moved up to Nº 33 with this win.

Martin Kaymer - (Germany) Abu Dhabi Golf Championship Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates - 17th to 20th January, 2008 The 23 year old German golfer Martin Kaymer, the 2007 European Tour Rookie of the Year, led from the first day and closed out the Abu Dhabi Championship with a final round 74 for a 15 under par total of 273. This win took the German player to Nº 34, a jump of 42 places. He became the only player in the World Top 50 under 25 years of age.

Adam Scott - (Australia) Commercialbank Qatar Masters Doha - Qatar - 24th to 27th January, 2008 Adam Scott shot a breathtaking final round of 11 under par 61 to win the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy for the second time, beating Henrik Stenson by three strokes at Doha Golf Club. The Australian, who won the last time he played in Qatar in 2002, climbed 4 places to Nº 4.

Tiger Woods - (USA) Dubai Desert Classic Emirates - Dubai - United Arab Emirates - 31st to 3rd February, 2008 The World Number One, Tiger Woods, matched his opening round 65 in the final round at Emirates Golf Club to win the Dubai Desert Classic for a second time. Nine birdies in the round including six on the back nine were enough for a single stroke win over Martin Kaymer who finished birdie, birdie, an eagle, for a total of 66. Ernie Els found water on the 18th as he faced a birdie to tie and slipping to tied third position with Louis Oosthuizen.

John Bickerton - (England) Alfred Dunhill Championship Leopard Creek - Malelane - South Africa - 6th to 9th December, 2007 England golfer John Bickerton won the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek to record his third European Tour win. He won by a stroke from compatriot Lee Slattery and Ernie Els after the South African took eight on the final hole, which including two visits to the water! John Bickerton climbed 93 places in the World Golf Ranking to 161st.

James Kingston - (South Africa) South African Airways Open Pearl Valley - Paarl - Western Cape - South Africa - 13th to 16th December, 2007 James Kingston completed an emotional victory at the South African Airways Open, holding off the challenge of Englands Oliver Wilson to lift his National Open Championship. James Kingston shot a final round of 71 for an overall score of four under par 278 total, and one ahead of Oliver Wilson. James Kingston moved up 195 places in the World Golf Ranking and ended 2007 as World Number 155.
